West Hampstead Cleaners Health And Safety Policy
West Hampstead Cleaners is committed to providing professional cleaning services in a way that safeguards the health, safety and welfare of our employees, clients, visitors and members of the public. We recognise our legal and moral responsibilities and aim to maintain high standards of safety performance in every property and environment where we work.
This policy applies to all employees, contractors, temporary staff and supervisors working on behalf of West Hampstead Cleaners across our full range of domestic and commercial cleaning services.
Health And Safety Objectives
Our main objectives are to prevent accidents and work-related ill health, to identify and manage risks associated with cleaning activities, and to promote a positive health and safety culture. We strive to deliver our services efficiently while ensuring that safety is never compromised and that hazards are identified and controlled as far as reasonably practicable.
We regularly review our health and safety performance, seek improvements in safe working practices, and ensure that our procedures are suitable for the homes, offices and buildings in which we operate.
Management Responsibilities
The management of West Hampstead Cleaners has overall responsibility for implementing this policy and for providing the resources necessary to maintain safe working conditions. Management will ensure that suitable risk assessments are carried out for cleaning tasks, equipment and substances, and that appropriate control measures are introduced and maintained.
Managers and supervisors are responsible for communicating health and safety expectations, monitoring compliance on site, and taking prompt action to resolve unsafe conditions or behaviours. They must ensure that employees receive appropriate instruction, supervision and refresher training so that cleaning services are delivered safely and consistently.
Employee Responsibilities
All employees are required to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their work. Employees must follow company procedures, use equipment correctly, and cooperate fully with any measures introduced to control risks.
Staff are responsible for reporting hazards, incidents, accidents, near misses, defective equipment, unsafe practices and any concerns regarding health and safety to their supervisor or manager without delay. Employees must not interfere with or misuse anything provided in the interests of health, safety or welfare.
Risk Assessment And Safe Working Practices
West Hampstead Cleaners will identify hazards and assess risks associated with our cleaning operations, including but not limited to manual handling, slips and trips, working with chemicals, use of electrical equipment and lone working. Written risk assessments and safe systems of work will be developed, communicated and followed at all relevant locations.
Safe working practices will include clear procedures for accessing client premises, securing work areas, handling waste, working at low levels such as steps or small ladders where applicable, and managing equipment cables and cleaning materials to minimise tripping hazards.
Chemical Safety And COSHH
We will ensure that all cleaning products and substances used by West Hampstead Cleaners are assessed for health risks. Safety data information will be obtained and appropriate control measures implemented in line with the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health requirements.
Employees will be instructed in the safe storage, dilution, mixing and use of cleaning chemicals, including the correct use of personal protective equipment. Chemicals will only be used for their intended purpose and will be stored securely, labelled clearly and kept out of reach of unauthorised persons, especially in domestic environments where children or pets may be present.
Training, Information And Supervision
All employees will receive induction training covering general health and safety responsibilities, emergency procedures, safe use of equipment and handling of cleaning substances. Task-specific training will be provided for specialised cleaning methods and machinery.
Ongoing supervision will be provided to ensure that safe practices are followed consistently and that any gaps in understanding are identified and corrected. Additional training will be arranged when there are changes to work methods, new equipment, updated products or identified performance issues.
Personal Protective Equipment
West Hampstead Cleaners will supply suitable personal protective equipment where risks cannot be adequately controlled by other means. This may include gloves, eye protection, footwear, masks or other items appropriate to the task.
Employees must use personal protective equipment as instructed, keep it in good condition and report any loss or damage so that it can be replaced. PPE is provided for the protection of staff and must never be shared in a way that could create hygiene or safety risks.
Accidents, Incidents And Emergency Procedures
All accidents, incidents and near misses that occur during our cleaning activities must be reported promptly and recorded. West Hampstead Cleaners will investigate incidents to identify underlying causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Employees will be made aware of emergency arrangements, including fire safety procedures, evacuation routes, first aid provision and contact points while working at client premises. Staff must familiarise themselves with local emergency instructions at each site and comply with any additional house rules provided by the client.
Welfare, Health And Wellbeing
We recognise the importance of supporting the welfare and wellbeing of our staff. Workloads and schedules will be planned to reduce unnecessary fatigue, and staff are encouraged to raise any concerns related to stress, physical strain or health limitations that may affect their work.
Where practical, adjustments will be considered to help employees carry out their duties safely, including reviewing manual handling tasks, equipment selection, or work organisation.
Cooperation With Clients And Other Parties
West Hampstead Cleaners will cooperate with clients, building managers and other contractors to coordinate health and safety arrangements where work is carried out in shared areas. Information relevant to site-specific risks, access arrangements and emergency procedures will be exchanged as necessary to protect everyone who may be affected by our work.
We expect clients to inform us of any known hazards or special requirements at their premises so that we can integrate this information into our risk assessments and working practices.
Monitoring, Review And Policy Updates
This Health and Safety Policy will be monitored on an ongoing basis and formally reviewed at regular intervals, or sooner if there are significant changes to our operations, legislation or best practice. Where improvements are identified, procedures will be updated and communicated to all relevant staff.
By working together and taking shared responsibility for safety, West Hampstead Cleaners aims to provide reliable, high-quality cleaning services while maintaining safe and healthy conditions for everyone involved in or affected by our work.
